The Manager’s Challenge
Managers have always needed to master the ability to zoom in and zoom out, relate the big picture to day-to-day activities, and decide at each step where to direct their attention and precious time wisely. Managers must lead people, inspire and motivate. They are responsible for the success of teams and groups.
And yet, being a manager today can be very different to even a decade or two ago: technology, new forms of organizational structure and collaboration, employee cultural diversity and the ever-changing dynamics of globalization and the global enterprise – all of these present new challenges to managerial leadership.
Add to this the increase in the number of careers & roles we now pursue over a lifetime, a new demand for work-life balance, the ongoing search for meaning and contentment ….and it’s clear why managers, no matter how successful, occasionally require guidance, advice and a helping hand.
